The ICOM IC-705 can be used for both portable and fixed-station operation.
The IC-705 is compact and convenient for portable operation, but I often hear reports of thermal protection reducing the output to 5 W during continuous 10 W transmission on an external power supply.

Although I had not previously tried transmitting continuously for that long, I decided to use my 3D printer to build a forced-air cooling unit.
Initially, the fan directed air only at the battery mounting area. The final-amplifier side did not cool sufficiently, so I revised the design to direct air there as well.
In this test, no problems occurred during approximately 20 minutes of continuous transmission at 10 W. The temperature also fell quickly after returning to receive, giving good results under the conditions tested.
Remove the radio's battery before fitting the fan unit.
The fan size is 50 mm.
M4 × 25 mm screws and nuts are required to secure the fan.
The fan unit designed in CAD
The download includes three commonly used file formats for compatible software.
STL: open in slicing software for 3D printing.
3MF and STEP: use with compatible 3D-printing or modeling software.
Please use ASA or ABS as the printing material.
Assembly instructions
STEP1
Place the spring between the parts and hold it in position.
Use a metal compression spring with a diameter of 3 mm and a free length of 9 mm.
STEP2
Press-fit an M2.6 nut into the hole.
Tip: insert a screw from the opposite side and tighten it to pull the nut into place.
STEP3
 Fit the cover.
Check that there are no gaps.
STEP4
Secure the cover with an M2.6 screw from the opposite side.
STEP5
 Install the fan.
Make sure the airflow is directed toward the IC-705.
