Buying a Chevrolet in Cebu, Philippines (2008/12/06)
I started looking for a car the day after I arrived in Cebu. There are many used car dealers in Cebu City. Used Japanese cars are quite expensive even if the steering wheel has been replaced. Moreover, directly imported Toyota, Nissan, and Honda cars cost over 1 million pesos (2 million yen), so they are out of my reach.
That's where I found GM's Chevrolet. It's four years old, but it was a little over my budget at 400,000 pesos (about 800,000 yen). Considering future problems, I thought it was a reasonable choice.
The previous owner must have taken good care of it, as both the exterior and interior are in great condition.
Today is the day of delivery, so we took Gigi and Lily for a drive. However, I asked Jessica to teach me driving techniques in Cebu.
What surprised me was that it is not okay to stop even if a pedestrian is trying to cross the street. This is because there is a risk of being rear-ended by a following vehicle. "You may be a safe driver in Japan, but that doesn't count here." Hmm, I have mixed feelings.
The interior was also really clean and Gigi was very happy. Gigi will be taking his final driving lesson using this car tomorrow, December 8th.
It's 4 years old and has this mileage, so it's pretty good.
